What bug is this? (With pictures)?

That is a dragonfly or sewing needle as my Mon used to call them. The hatch out of very tall grass all at once and the swarm as they make. My yard was inundated with thousands for two years in a row for a day or two. It was quite a site. My Huskies in the back kept jumping up to grab some. Sadly, now that most of that tall grass is kept cut, we no longer have the swarms. They are a very cool insect and one of my favorites.
