What shots should I get before going to Belize?

I know that it is not a requirement for my husband and I to get vaccinations before our trip, but I am very curious if it is worth the extra money. We are also looking into Malaria pills. I would love some advice from anyone who has gone to Belize and has experience in this. The shots and pills are exceedingly expensive, so I am not sure what to do. I should add that we are from the United States.
